I hope you are all having a terrific Tuesday! I'm having a good day, aside from constantly battling thoughts of doubt and negativity about my decision to enter a body competition. At least ten times today I've thought to myself, "What in the heck are you getting yourself into?!" I feel like a crazy person. One minute I'm pumped up and hear the theme song from Rocky playing in my head and the next minute I feel like a fool for even telling anyone about my plans to do this. Don't get me wrong, I'm going to do this even if it kills me (and it may! HA!), but I've only just begun and already have been struggling with fear and doubt and need to remind myself that they are only thoughts and can disappear as fast as they appear. Every time I hear a negative voice tell me I can't do this I am going to respond in an even louder voice, "Yes, I can and I will!"
Anyway, the Hunk (aka Hubby) and I ended up playing a card game last night that didn't end until 11:00pm and we were exhausted this morning so I missed my morning cardio. GRRR! I'm mad at myself for hitting snooze, but at the same time we had a b-l-a-s-t staying up late playing cards and I don't remember laughing that hard since...well, actually, I laugh that hard everyday with my man:) I am ridiculously blessed to be so in love with and married to my best friend! <--off on a tangent....Anyway, so a little after my oatmeal and egg white breakfast I headed to the gym and did an Upper Body workout. I'm still stuck on BFL weight training and feel like it's time I take my strength training regime to the next level to really concentrate on the areas I need to work with maximum efficiency. But, for today I did the following, lifting heavy:
- Chest: Bench press and machine flys
- Back: Lat pull down and Low Row
- Shoulders: Overhead dumbbell press and front/side lateral raises
- Biceps: Alternating curls plus concentration curls and barbell curls
- Triceps: Bench dips (definitely felt the burn!) and cable extensions
I'm going to start doing splits next week once I have my plan written out and ready to take with me on Monday. I suppose another perk to being one of the 'Real Housewives of Pittsburgh' is that I have all the time in the world to dedicate myself in the gym and can go any time of the day I want. Score!
Once back from the gym I took advantage of the gorgeous day out and had a post workout shake and half a sweet potato on our balcony.

cow cud shake was nothing to write home about. Howwwww-ever, when I start dropping ridiculous amounts of body fat that will be something to write home about (Hi mom and dad!) so I'll just plug my nose and drink up!
1) How do you like your protein shakes?
2) Is there anything your significant other wears that makes you swoon? My hubby can't stand wearing his glasses and only busts them out if he has a headache or is out of contacts/solution, but I just think he is the cat's meow when he does wear them:)

Going... going...gone!!!
For the shake I mixed up 1 scoop (25 grams) Jay Robb Vanilla with water plus 2 large handfuls of spinach and tons of ice cubes. Now, let me tell you: this is NOT how I am usually accustomed to making shakes. My usual shakes rival those of a Wendy's Frosty and this Well, Hubbs just got home after grabbing a beer with a buddy after work so I'm going to spend a quality evening with him. Not to mention today he wore his glasses to work (which he never does) and I don't know what it is about glasses, but I think he looks sooooo sexy with them on. Think Clark Kent HA!

I always used to blend my protein with a minimal amount of water and cocoa to make a brownie batter like april of foodsofapril.com
ReplyDeleteI love your writing. You are so witty. Wish we lived closer, I can tell we would be good friends and AWESOME work out buddies.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, just a heads up, this competition prep is the biggest roller coaster ride you have ever been on. Seriously, one day you will be in tears b/c you just don't think you can make it happen and the next day you will be on cloud 9 knowing you are going to make it to the stage. The good news is that the down times don't typically last long and the high times occur WAY more than the down ones so feel good about that.
And to answer your questions. I prefer chocolate protein shake with a little bit of sugar free jello pudding mix in there and lots of ice and a about 6 oz. of water. It makes it thick and the ice makes it frothy and good!
As far as what my husband wears, this is funny but true. He has the old cut off sweats that are now shorts and he wears them around the house and I love how they look on him. They hit him at the right spot on his muscular leg and then they make his butt look cute. HA!
