This morning I had planned on meeting my friend at her gym to try a Body Pump class. Fail. I got there 5 minutes after the class started, however she had decided to opt out of the class herself because she had a rough morning and wanted to do cardio instead. I guess it worked out better for both of us in the end because I did a KILLER shoulder workout instead- Super
Superset 1 (4 sets, 12 reps)
Arnold Press- 20lbs
Lateral Raises-10lbs, then 8lbs for last three sets (these kill me every time! I don't know how April does 20lb &17.5 lb dropsets on this. Girl, you're amazing!)
Superset 2 (4 sets, 12 reps)
Rear Delt Row- 10lbs, 12lbs, then 15lbs for last two sets
Front Raises- 10lbs, then 12lbs for last three sets
Straight Set (4 sets of 12 reps)
Rear Delt Flyes- 45lbs, then 40lbs for last three sets (looks like I need to work my rear-delts FIRST next time, because I was so exhausted at this point)
Let me just tell you, my shoulders are now what's on fire. Geez! I was going to shoulder press 25lbs, but decided to lower weights and do supersets instead. However, next Shoulder workout I'm going to go back to Straight Sets to increase my weights. I've been supersettting most of my workouts for 2-3 weeks now and want to keep changing it up.
It was funny, though, because while I was in the gym I got two funny comments from strangers. One was in the locker room when a gal saw me with my gallon water bottle. She said she's never seen a water bottle that big and I told her it is, indeed, a feat to drink the entire thing in a day, but that I try! The other was when I was doing rear-delt flyes. An older, middle eastern-ish (?) man came up to me and asked, "Were you a daddy's girl?". I said, 'Um, what do you mean?" and he said, "You just look like you would have been Daddy's favorite or highly-favored in his eyes. You just have that look." I haven't a CLUE what that man meant by that, but OK... HA!
After the gym, we hit up their fancy-shmancy "smoothie bar" and I hounded the dude behind the counter to find out what all goes in these "recovery" drinks. I don't want sugar and even asked him if I could read the label on the protein powder he had. HA! I told him I wanted 25 grams of chocolate Isopure Zero-Carb Whey and water and nothing else. I guess I just don't trust peeps anymore not to put added sugar and fillers in my shakes.
After the gym I went to my second home (the grocery store) and lookey what I found:
PUMPKIN! Oh, how I've missed you! Welcome back, my sweet friend! Even though I won't eat you until after competition, I'm glad you're now part of my pantry! All four cans of you! :)
After a wonderful lunch of 99% lean turkey burger, 112 grams asparagus and 30g cashews, I downed all my vitamins while drinking this:
Since I'm not eating dairy during competition prep (waaaaa!), I've been supplementing with this liquid calcium. I added one tablespoon of the frothy goodness to my cup of licorice root tea. Yum-E! I often drink licorice root tea (Throat Coat) because it's naturally sweet and helps curb cravings:)
I originally saw this on April's blog and then again on Pauline Nordin's blog and really liked the stats so I ordered some. NutraFiber Flakes are high fiber sugar beet flakes and are:
- 100% natural
- Gluten free
- 5 grams of dietary fiber per serving (one tablespoon)
- 13 calories per serving
- No sugar
Well, I'm going to hit the shower and get ready for my Darlin' to get home. We're going over to some friends house for dinner and a bonfire! Can't wait! Our friends, Melissa and Dave, are so so so much fun to hang out with! The four of us laugh a ton when we're together and I'm sure tonight will be no different! Ya'll have a fun, safe Friday night!

ReplyDeleteAww thanks!! Are you doing the straight arm or with your elbow bent on the lateral raises? 'Cause I can only do 20 pounders when I use the bent elbows, otherwise I'm doing 15 pounds for straight arm. ha!!

ReplyDeleteI don't blame you. I don't trust most smoothie bars or shake bars at the gym. Most use fruit flavored junk instead of real fruit and most use PB with hydrogenated oils. No Bueno!!

Licorice tea is one of my FAV's!! the throat coat, I have all the time even when I don't need any throat coating haha its just so sweet and delicious!
I hear ya on the gazillion extra cals that people really dont realize that they get in those post workout shakes at the gym...at my gym they usually make them with juice and fruit, but you CAN customize it, I just don't feel like paying $5 for a shake I can make at home, ya know? unless im in a rush!
