This is the post that almost wasn't. I want to blog, but it's nearly 9pm and I need to get to sleep since we're waking up at 5am for cardio. Everyone say it with me, "YAY for 5am cardio!!!"....(eyes roll...)
Today has been a great day. I did 45 minutes cardio first thing, though I don't know my calorie burn because I forgot my Heart Rate Monitor (DOH, hate it when that happens!). Then, after breakfast, I met up with a friend at Soergel's Orchard Family Farm Market.

I love Soergel's! They have this side store called Naturally Soergel's that has all types of healthy, natural food products. They specialize in gluten and allergen-free products, and although I am (thankfully) not allergic or intolerant to any foods, I always find cool new products there and love to spend all my money in their store (Earmuffs, Hubbs!)I was thinking today about how it will be nice once competition is over, so that my diet won't be so restrictive and I can share more of my healthy food finds! I love a wide variety of healthy foods and am excited once more fruits and vegetables are back on the menu again! Oh, and my beloved d-a-i-r-y products!!!
Anyway, after I left Soergel's, I headed back to the gym to lift. But not before stopping at a gas station to get a small bottle of water so that I could make a protein shake:
I had a single-serving packet of Jay Robb Chocolate Whey Protein Powder and a packet of Chocolate Amazing Grass and used my plastic funnel to *neatly* pour the contents into my water bottle. Trust me, wasting an entire serving of protein because you "missed" the water bottle opening and got protein powder all over your nice black pants is reason enough for me to find an easier way to make on-the-go shakes. TIP: I bought a set of 3 plastic funnels at the Dollar Tree and keep one in each of our two cars, plus one at home for easy pouring! :)
On my way to the gym, I saw a sign for a receptionist job at a local spa. I've been looking for a part-time job to bring in a little extra $ to feed my supplement habit and really want to work in a spa. I called and am going to stop by tomorrow to fill out an application and meet with one of the owners. Wish me luck!
Anyway, at the gym I warmed up for 10 minutes on the Stairmill and then did the toughest Shoulders/Triceps workout I've ever done. I increased my shoulder press to 25lbs and am already feeling the difference. Oh man, I can only imagine how sore I'll be tomorrow! (April, I'm now even more impressed you are pressing 30#s...flippin' awesome, girl!) I really worked my rear-delts doing flys and rows and also incorporated super-sets with front and lateral raises in the mix. It was a great workout!
Immediately after my workout, I left the gym andtotally drove the speed limit like a good citizen sped like a fugitive home to meet my Hunk so that we could go to the doctor together. I ran around the house like this guy....
...and scrounged around for the last pre-cooked chicken breast and half a sweet potato from yesterday. I nuked it in the microwave for 60 seconds and gobbled it down in the car on the way to the doctor because Mufasa was making all sorts of crazy "nature calls" from his lair...a.k.a, my tummy. And when he calls, I answer....immediately.
Hubby and I went to a new doctor today, because I've been 0 for 2 the last two attempts to find a doctor that 1) I trust and 2) isn't a "drug pusher". Seriously, the last two doctors I've gone to for an annual check-up since moving to PA last summer, have tried to push drugs as the answer to my high cholesterol without even inquiring about my diet or exercise. I'm 23 lbs lighter, exercise 6-7 days a week and have changed my diet COMPLETELY in the past several months to include whole, unprocessed foods, healthy fats, lean proteins, and tons of produce. I know that prescription drugs are not the answer unless you've exhausted all efforts to find a natural, healthy solution. It drives me BONKERS how doctors just push drugs as the "fix", instead of asking the necessary questions and really getting to the root of the problem. I know quite a few people who have changed their unhealthy eating patterns and adopted an exercise plan and have come off TONS of medication.
Ahem...anyhoo...I LOVED the doctor I saw today! She was so wonderful! I felt totally comfortable with her and she made me feel as if I was her only patient for the day! I've never had a physician spend that much time on me, asking questions and inquiring about ME and I felt I could trust her, which is HUGE! Hubbs felt the same way:) So YAY- the search for a good doctor is finally over!!! We'll be going back on Friday for our blood work and I'm HOPING and PRAYING my cholesterol has gone down. If you remember, I've discussed already how high cholesterol is genetic in my family so we have to watch it closely. Hopefully my fish oil has been helping me out lately!
Anyway, just before we thought we could leave and escape any needles, it was brought to our attention that my Darlin' and I both needed a Tetanus shot. OY! Being the perfect gentleman that he is, Hubbs insisted I go first. BAHAHA! Actually, I volunteered to go first because I know he is just as squirmy as I am with needles. Luckily, it was over before I we knew it.
After our doctor's appointment we headed to CVS to pick up a few things and I decided we both deserved a "treat" for being such good patients at the doctor's office. (Gah, they don't even give you lollipops anymore!)
Can you guess who got which treat?
It's weird to call a DIET Dr. Pepper a treat, but honestly- for me- it is!
Well, friends, it's now 9:25pm and that means it's time for my casein shake, tooth brushing, snuggle session with Hubbs and zzzzzzzzzzs's.
Hasta manana, amigas!
QUESTION:
1) Have you had your annual physical? If not, schedule it ASAP like I did! You gotta stay on top of your health or it'll stay on top of you!
2) How do you feel about needles? I'm a big weenie when it comes to needles, but after today I can definitely say I'd rather have a shot than have blood drawn anyday. Seriously, even just typing the "b" word..blood makes my stomach queasy. That's probably why I'm the ONLY one in my immediate family who did not go into the health-care field.

Ok, I'm taking a step down off my soapbox now....

Hi girlie!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found a doctor you really like and trust, that is SO important!
I try to have a physical every year. I had my cholesterol checked about a year ago. I am very fortunate in that department. My doctor told me if I wasn't in front on him he would think it was the cholesterol profile of a 10 year old. I have patients that have made amazing changes in their cholesterol with diet and exercise!
I'm gettig more comfy with getting shots now that I give flu shots. I even gave myself one this year. Gotta admit, I was nervous and had an adrenaline rush but that rush is probably why it didn't hurt, haha. =)
Have you ever considered going to a nurse practitioner instead of physicians? I'm not just saying this because that's what i'm going to school for (ha!) but in all of my experience they are so much better at bedside manner, easier to talk to, and listen to you! That's all I go to now- I love them! And I have no clue why it's the case but that's what everyone tells me as well :)
ReplyDeleteNeedles.. well, I love them! Ha!! Well let me rephrase that, I love sticking people with them, not so much in myself. But I don't mind it!
