Well, I hope your week is off to a fantabulous start! Yesterday, I was busy running errands and by the time I was able to post, Hubbs was home and I didn't want to blog when I can spend quality time with my Hunk. You understand:) Yesterday's workouts included 45 minutes of cardio first thing in the morning and then later in the afternoon I returned to the 'Testosterone Box', to work my quads/hamstrings/glutes for an hour. One word: DOMS.Let me just say, today I woke up feeling like a 90-year-old lady and pretty much moan and groan each time I have to sit or stand up.
Hubbs and I had our alarms set to 5am to get our workout in early. FAIL. I don't know what it was but we were both in a coma. I'm disappointed I didn't get up early for cardio, but at the same time I don't know how productive my workout would have been to be hanging off the elliptical half asleep. Ah well, I'll just get up Sunday morning (my rest day) for cardio to make up for this morning's miss.
I realize I haven't been posting my meals lately, but I eat pretty much the same things everyday. I'm not complaining, either. In fact, I've already
- 1/2c old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 c Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla almond milk
- 1 TBSP bee pollen plus a giant mound of cinnamon
- Four egg whites
- One
chucklingheiferLaughing Cow cheese wedge.
Seriously, with a breakfast that good, I have no reason to stray. I'm faithful to my food.
Some other things I've been eating a lot of lately may require you sit down while viewing. They are pretty exciting...

I told you- super exciting. I got both these at Costco and actually, the Tilapia is REALLY good. Hubby eats it and he doesn't even "like" fish:)
I ♥ Costco. Lifting heavy weights won't cause you to bulk up, but Costco sure will!

Speaking of Fage 0% yogurt, when I initially found out that dairy was kind of "off limits" during competition prep, I almost cried. I LOVE my dairy (Greek yogurt, cottage cheese and my secret lover, Laughing Cow...
I cut dairy out for a few days and like a love sick puppy came crawling back for more. Pathetic, I know. The thing is, the more I think about prepping for competition and getting my body in the BEST shape ever, the more I am committed to eating in a manner that will 1) get results and B) be easy to maintain after the competition is over. Competing is just a personal goal of mine to stand on stage showing my progress and hard work, but I want to be able to maintain my physique even after it's over. Granted, I may be up 5-7 lbs after peak week due to water weight gain, but I don't want to do anything or cut out whole food groups that will cause me to balloon up after I eat "normal" again. Now, "normal" does not mean processed foods or anything, because I don't eat like that now. I eat very clean, whole foods to begin with, but, I want to be able to eat dairy afterward and not worry about gaining a pound after a small container of yogurt. Because that would just be insane!
With that being said, I'm eating limited dairy. I eat 2 Laughing Cow cheese wedges a day (gasp!) and a cup of Greek yogurt or cottage cheese every other day (oh, the horror!). I won't eat these every single day and right now I think that is OK. If the scale doesn't change and I don't see that I am progressing, only then will I limit dairy entirely and perhaps as I get closer to the competition day. I just don't think I
I think Meat Loaf said it best when he sang, "I would do anything for love...but I won't do that"... I'm willing to give up all sweets/desserts, breads, fruit, starchy vegetables, etc., but I don't think I can eliminate dairy completely.
Well, I'm off to get my hair did. Red hair color fades so quickly so I am getting my roots retouched and putting the "BAM!" back into my hair color:) Then its off for a killer upper body work out! Watch out! These "guns are loaded- POW! POW! ;)
1) For those of you who have competed in a figure competition, do you think cutting out dairy really does make that significant a difference?
2) Is there any food group you are not willing to give up, no matter what your waistline looks like?

"Now that she's back in the blogosphere, with drops of Jupiter in her hair, hey, hey" hahah i love your husband for this too. i'm determined to marry someone that makes me laugh everyday as well!
ReplyDeletehahah that meat loaf chart made me crack up!! so glad you posted that. i needed a pick me up today!
i don't give up anything! i can't!
As far as diary...I know a lot of competitors who never give it up, some who limit it, and some who never take it out until 1-2 weeks prior!
ReplyDeleteHey girl! I have done all three... I have done shows where I did not give it up, where I gave it up a few weeks out and the most recent I cut it out for the entire 12 weeks... for the most part, he he! I LOVE my dairy and honestly it was the hardest thing for me to omit completely. I didn't see a huge difference in my body in any of these scenarios. I think you do what works for you, if it keeps you sane than by all means KEEP IT IN... in small amounts like you are. Otherwise you will binge. Trust me. I just did :)
ReplyDeleteHi there - just found your blog from april's. We have similar intents it seems:) I have gone with and without dairy - and never saw a difference in anything but my digestion. Really.
ReplyDeletesweets.....I won't give up!
ReplyDeletehahaha it's so awesome you found a man that keeps you laughing everyday :D
ReplyDeleteWhere'd you find that syrup? I love Torani sugar frees and have tried their caramel, hazelnut, chocolate, raspberry, and coconut so far. The raspberry and coconut have been my favorite so far..but i bet that pancake one would give them a run for their money
Nice score at Costco!! They have everything. I love their salmon burgers too.
ReplyDeleteGlad your a texas girl! Well, from texas that is. We're in Austin, yeehaww!
To Mary:
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to answer your question aside from posting here, but I get the DaVinci Gourmet Syrups online. They are SF (made with Splenda) and come in over 40 flavors. I know you can find them sometimes at Wal-Mart and TJ Maxx, though.
The bottles online are $7.99 for a HUGE bottle that lasts a long time. Some of my favorite flavors are: Pancake, German Chocolate Cake, Toasted Marshmallow and Pecan Praline. For someone who is on a strict eating "plan" for competition, these are a godsend because they are sweet and I feel like I'm eating dessert:)
hey lady!!! wanted to pop in and say hi!! I just emailed you back about dairy. I still eat it now, I am not 12 weeks out, so I have it. I never really have tried omitting it completely, I am basically just listening to what my coach tells me LOL
ReplyDeletelaughing cows ROCK. I am just not having them right now because thye are a bit processed *wahhhh* but I do love them!
I am really willing to give up something that I love when I am working towards a goal, although it will be HARD and I will be cranky :)
